History

The Willows Rural Fire Protection District (WRFPD) was created on October 8, 1974 by a unanimous vote of the Glenn County Board of Supervisors.  The district was formed to provide fire protection for a large area of southern Glenn County not included in a fire district.  The district encompasses 78 square miles and surrounds the City of Willows and continues south to the Colusa County Line.

In 1975 the City Council of the City of Willows and the Board of Directors of the WRFPD entered into a mutual services agreement which both entities still operate under today. This agreement allows both entities to share facilities and resources which saves the taxpayers of the city and district scare tax dollars which would otherwise be spent on duplicating these resources for each organization.

The person power needed to staff both organizations is provided by the city career fire staff and the members of the Willows Volunteer Fire Department.

This partnership between the city and the district coupled with the dedication of the volunteer firefighters both past and present has made the Willows Fire Department a strong and beneficial asset to their community.
